~ A Random Update ~

"By the way, I'm hurt you mentioned the estranged, (or just strange), brother, but failed to mention the two good looking and extremely smart older sisters (well, one for sure )..."

This is the response I got from my sister Kellie when she saw my story on SooToday. Sorry Sis, but you had little to no influence on my love of music, as beautiful as you may be...(Notice I said nothing regarding her self-proclaimed intelligence...?) That's what you get for calling me "Puke" throughout my childhood.

But back to the business at hand...Random Order and their recipe for a smashing good time. Take equal parts phat funky bass, full on ska trombone, crisp and cool reggae drum beats and heavy punk guitar, blend thoroughly until smooth and drench with a delicious coating of sexy vocals...serve hot...mmmm, that's good music.

It was about midnight when the band took the stage to wow the eager crowd at the Downbeat...and wow they did. From the first song to the last, there were dancers...inside the bar as well as on the sidewalk. It was impossible to resist what they were dishing out and we all feverishly ate it up.

In addition to their fantastic original material, they served up a couple surprises...like disco...you heard me. And then there was the ska version of Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues" with Slick Thireault as guest vocalist. Finding the audience irresistible, Lynn joined us on the dance floor boosting the energy in the room into the red. They finished off the set with a smokin' rendition of "Foxy Lady" which climaxed in an exciting "how to play guitar with a trombone" demonstration.

It was too much fun for us to let them leave the stage. The audience was insatiable and made a long and loud encore demand, which they obliged. The band had fun. The audience had fun. The staff had fun. I definitely had fun and will never again make the mistake of missing Random Order.
