The Twenty movie to be shown at Bayliss Library

On Tuesday, June 5, at 6:30 p.m., Bayliss Public Library will show the independent film, The Twenty.

It was mostly filmed in Sault Ste. Marie and on Neebish Island in 2006.

Local businesses, such as the Antler’s Restaurant, R&R Marine Supply, Penny’s Kitchen, and the Merchant’s Bar are among the locations shown in the film.

Producer, director, and actor Chopper Bernet, who lives in California, welcomed the library’s request to show the movie.

He spent summers on Neebish Island as a youth.

The drama/mystery is basically his life story about sobriety and self-discovery.

The main character, Carty Fox, has struggled with his drinking and the blackouts that attend it for as long as he can remember.

But now, having jumped into the sober world one more time, he attempts to find a tiny handhold with which he can pull himself out of the gloom and into a more normal life.

For Carty, the answer arrives in the form of a message written on a twenty-dollar bill.

The message which, much to the chagrin of his family and friends, begins to intrigue him and drag him into an obsession.

It leads him on a journey that forces him to reflect on his own life and to catch sight of the shadowy person he has imprisoned for all these years.

The movie was released in 2009, shown at various film festivals, and came out on DVD the following year.

Those who participated in the filming are welcome to attend and share the story of their involvement.

There will be an opportunity for discussion after the showing.

The movie is free and for adult audiences.

The Friends of the Library will provide refreshments.
