The Silverleaf Writers Guild is proud to announce the line-up of authors who will be present at the 2nd Annual Northern Ontario Book Fair, which will take place at Roberta Bondar Park in Sault Ste. Marie from Aug. 10-12, 2018.

The Northern Ontario Book Fair is an annual event organized by the Silverleaf Writers Guild that gives regional authors a chance to showcase their talents and sell their books.

The guild received dozens of applications from authors all across the region, but due to space and time limitations, only nine feature spots were available. The organizing committee considered many factors, with the ultimate goal of gathering the most diverse group of stories and authors possible.

Jennifer Barone is an early childhood educator and author in her hometown of Sault Ste. Marie. Her debut picture book, Goose On A Roof, tells the story of Henry, a goose bullied by other geese on the farm. Through her writing, Barone wants to encourage children to believe in their dreams and pursue their goals.

Nevin Buconjic is an award-winning entrepreneur, strategic advisor, and community builder. He is the founder of StartUP Sault Ste. Marie, part of the Startup Canada network, and the author of two books; 25 Money-Making Businesses You Can Start in Your Spare Time and Starting Your Own Business: An Entrepreneur's Guide. Buconjic currently resides in Sault Ste. Marie.

J.M. Cleminson is a resident of Batchewana First Nation and author of a fantasy fiction series that includes Ecliptic and Interstice. “My inspiration is based largely on my Native ancestry and my life so far. I enjoy writing with a little humor and a lot of imagination,” says Cleminson.

Darren Emond is a visual, literary, and performance artist living in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. He has written and illustrated several books and graphic novels over his career. He is currently working on The Fantabulous Tales Of The Frivolous Fox set to be released in paperback by Chapter House publishing in summer 2018.

J.L. Fizzell is a writer and a poet from Timmins, Ont. To date she has released two poetry anthologies, Icarus, Anchors and You and Pears and Swine, with a third on the way. Exploring themes of love, hardship, courage and mental health, Fizzell says her books “are best enjoyed outside with a cup of coffee and an open mind.”

Emma L. R. Hogg is the author of six fiction novels, including The Fourth Wall, which was nominated for the Whistler Independent Book Award in 2017. Her most recent novel, Winona Rising, was released in March 2018. Emma now resides in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., where she is working on her next novel.

Patricia C. Lee is an author and playwright whose play was staged at QUONTA. She was published in Writer’s Digest’s Show Us Your Shorts Collection after becoming a contest finalist. She is also the author of the Daughters of the Crescent Moon trilogy, a paranormal romance series. She currently resides in Elliot Lake.

Tom Mills is an award-winning writer whose Humour Me columns and opinion pieces appear in the Sault Star and a number of other Ontario newspapers. He recently retired from an editorial career that spanned from Niagara Falls to Winnipeg. Mills currently lives in Aweres Township, where he says he “enjoys hiking, snowshoeing, and trying to complete an addition to my house.”

Kirsten Wreggitt grew up in Richards Landing, but has lived in many other communities over the years. “Each change has shaped my view of the world and I share those transitions through my writing,” says Wreggitt. Her memoir, Before I Let You Go: Stories for My Grown Son, explores the themes of motherhood, change, and mental health. She currently resides in Calgary, Alta.

The exact times and dates of each author’s book signing will be released at a future date.

Other authors who were shortlisted and whose books will be available for purchase at the fair are:

  • Sabrina Cartwright, a fantasy fiction author from Sault Ste. Marie
  • Gloria Jean Hansen, a poet and short story writer from Elliot Lake
  • David M. Kelly, a science fiction author from Sudbury
