Ripcordz turn it up a notch at The Loft

Montreal punk show was a departure for the usually low-key venue

Stepping outside its comfort zone Friday night, The Loft at the Algoma Conservatory of Music played host to the Ripcordz, one of Canada's longest-running punk bands. It was a definite departure for a venue better known for hosting folk, jazz and classical artists.

"It's weird to play a club that's not held together with gaffer tape and dried puke," said frontman Paul Gott mid-way through the band's set.

He also told the crowd that the Sault is one of the band's favourite places to play, explaining that the trio had made the trip all the way from Montreal specifically to play this show. And it's not the first time they've done so.

While there was far less moshing than one might expect at a Ripcordz show, the audience was appreciative and kept the merch table busy.

Opening sets were provided by locals Far From Fine and A Dire Setback.

From here, the Ripcordz will play Thunder Bay before making a stop in Sudbury on the way home to Montreal.
