Ripcordz rule the Speakeasy (photos, video)

I went to an all-ages punk rock show to celebrate my seventh wedding anniversary. And my husband and I loved it. It is behaviour much like this that has awarded me the title of "Hopper Family Black Sheep," me thinks.
I went to an all-ages punk rock show to celebrate my seventh wedding anniversary.

And my husband and I loved it.

It is behaviour much like this that has awarded me the title of "Hopper Family Black Sheep," me thinks.

But I'm OK with the knowledge that I'm the only one in my family that fully appreciates the importance of a band like the Ripcordz.

Sault Ste. Marie was stop number two on a tour that will see the Ripcordz play 24 shows in 24 days.

Their set was energetic, loud and full of enough angst to keep the mosh pit teaming with activity through to the last note.

Front man Paul Gott told tales of his undying love for punk rock girls, how much he loves playing in the Sault even though we seem to suffer from a towel shortage, and how some audience members were younger than a few of the songs they played.

The Speakeasy was well attended Sunday night by fans of all ages.

Traveling with the Ripcordz was another Montreal-based punk band, Rockets Away, fronted by Ripcordz' bass player, Alex.

Although I know Alex has a last name, I have spent hours searching for it and continue to come up empty handed.

And I never remember to ask him when I speak with him.

So he's just Alex.

Filling in the blanks between out of town acts were locals Fitswitch, featuring Jeff Goertzen on drums with them for the very first time, and No Arrow who had the unfortunate task of following the Ripcordz.

While all four bands performed at the top of their game, the audience remained fairly quiet and unresponsive, aside from one fellow who had to be forcedly removed, until the Ripcordz took the stage.

Everyone there was there to see the Ripcordz.
