Algoma International Film Association announces video competition winners

Algoma International Films is pleased to announce the winners of the third annual AIF Video Competition in two categories.

Two entries in the Student Category and three submissions in the Open Category were awarded prizes by the AIF jury.

There were eleven entries in total.

Adam Proulx won First Prize Student Category for his satiric comedy Expire, a six-minute spoof on James Bond.

Jenna Stortini was awarded Second Prize Student Category for Behind Closed Doors, a nine-minute drama on teen suicide.

The Student Category is designed for submissions from primary and secondary students in the Algoma District and Upper Peninsula of Michigan which are limited to a maximum running time of 10 minutes.

Both winners were students at St. Mary's College.

The AIF jury did not award a Third Prize Student Category this year.

In the Open category, Tony Felgueiras, attending Humber College, won First Prize Open Category for e-Life, a documentary exploring the impact of technology on the lives of two young adults.

Rob Armieri, from Sault Ste. Marie now attending University of Western Ontario was awarded Second Prize Open Category for Devils and Angels, a short noir drama about a man haunted by his past.

Genevieve Heineman was awarded Third Prize Open Category for The Adventures of 2 Fine Sistas, an ambitious 22-minute TV pilot about two young women living in San Francisco.

Winning awards in the Open Category are $300 for First, $200 for Second and $100 for Third.

Winning awards in the Student Category are $200 for First, $100 for Second and $50 for Third.

Winning entries will be screened 10 a.m., Saturday, February 24/07 at Galaxy Cinema as part of the 8th annual Shadows of the Mind Film Festival.
