Author Ellen Airgood to Speak at Bayliss Library

Bayliss Public Library [in Sault Michigan] welcomes back Grand Marais author Ellen Airgood on Tuesday, May 6, at 6:30 p.m., to speak about her juvenile novel Prairie Evers.

“This easygoing, earnest story of friendship and family is set in upstate New York, but its heart is nestled deep in the mountains of North Carolina,” according to Kirkus Review.

This story of a spirited 10-year-old girl named Prairie Evers was a Family Book Club favourite at the library.

Come to hear the author tell about her forthcoming companion book for Prairie Evers that is tentatively due out in 2015.

Her first novel, South of Superior, for adult readers, was published in 2011.

It has been described as “an unsentimental but warm-hearted view of life in an isolated Michigan town” by author Philip Caputo.

Airgood’s writing has appeared in The New York Times and she writes a regular blog about her life in the U.P.

She and her husband have operated the West Bay Diner in Grand Marais for more than twenty years.

Ellen Airgood described how she came to writing: “This is the route I took to becoming a writer. I didn’t get an MFA or study writing in school. I could have learned about life anywhere, but fate brought me here, to the end of the earth and a tiny town that time forgot."

To learn more about the author and her novels, visit her website www.ellenairgood.com.

Her books will be available for sale and signing thanks to Barnes & Noble bookstore at Lake Superior State University.

The Friends of the Library will provide refreshments.

Bayliss Public Library, a Superior District Library, is located at 541 Library Drive in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
