Theatre Algoma to present The Monument – an award-winning play

Theatre Algoma (Algoma UC) is pleased to present The Monument by Canadian playwright Colleen Wagner.

The play won the 1996 Governor General's Award and was nominated for a Dora Mavor Award.

The Theatre Algoma production is directed by Ulrich Sikora, a theatre professor at Thorneloe University Theatre in Sudbury.

A young soldier, sentenced to death for war crimes committed against women, is unexpectedly 'saved' from execution by a mysterious woman who takes him on an emotional journey into the realms of hate, retribution, repentance, and forgiveness.

The role of Stetko is played by Frank Scardamaglia, and the role of Mejra is played by Professor Valerie Senyk in this "deeply affecting play" (Melbourne Times).

This performance contains scenes and language that may be disturbing to some.

Performances are on February 10 and 11 at 8pm in the Theatre Auditorium at Algoma University College.

Tickets are available at Student Services at Algoma University College (Shingwauk Hall 304 or 308) or at the door.
