Plaskett cleans up at East Coast Music Awards

SYDNEY, NS - Good things came in three last night for Joel Plaskett at the Bell Aliant 2010 East Coast Music Awards presented by RBC tonight at Centre 200 in Sydney.

The Halifax singer-songwriter’s album, Three, helped him take home a total of six music awards: Sennheiser Entertainer of the Year, Konica Minolta Male Solo Recording of the Year, FACTOR Recording of the Year, Vibe Creative Group Single of the Year, SOCAN Songwriter of the Year, and MapleMusic Pop Recording of the Year.

Plaskett’s haul was part of an unforgettable night, where The Rankin Family were honoured with the Director’s Special Achievement Award and the late Scotty Turner was recognized with the Dr. Helen Creighton Lifetime Achievement Award.

Plaskett actually ended ECMA weekend with seven awards, as he nabbed the Producer of the Year Award at Friday’s industry awards brunch.

Other multiple award winners included Prince Edward Island’s Catherine MacLellan, who took Female Solo Recording of the Year and Folk Recording of the Year.

Halifax’s In-Flight Safety also won a pair of awards, taking home Group of the Year and Alternative Recording of the Year.

New Brunswick’s The Motorleague added to their Capri Cabaret Loud Recording of the Year from Saturday night by adding the Bell Aliant Fan’s Choice Video of the Year Award.

The 2010 Cape Breton event is an annual event organized by the East Coast Music Association as a critical part of its mission statement.

The 2010 event took place in Sydney, NS from March 4-7, 2010.
