St. James Episcopal Church features selections from the Phantom of the Opera

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI - St. James Episcopal Church at 533 Bingham Avenue (in Sault Michigan) will host the third program of the 2013 Historic Churches of Sault Ste. Marie series on Monday, July 15, at 7 p.m.

It will feature a musical program entitled An Evening of Music from the Phantom of the Opera.

Karly McKee, a soprano soloist at St. James, will perform various selections from the well-known Andrew Lloyd Webber musical.

Rev. Robert Aldrich, the Music Director at St. James, will accompany her on the organ.

The musical selections will be arranged according to the message each contains and dramatic narration will link them.

Karly McKee, a native of Sault Ste. Marie, is director of the Youth Choir at STARS, and performs regularly at weddings and funerals, as well as the National Anthem at Laker hockey home games.

She was recently the featured performer in productions of Always Patsy and last month she performed at the Governors’ meeting on Mackinac Island.

St. James Church will be open for viewing from 6:30 to 8 p.m. that evening.

Refreshments will be provided after the concert.

Admission is free.

Donations are accepted and greatly appreciated.

Your donations fund the printing of the annual brochure.

The 1902 church is one of five churches showcased this year on Monday evenings during the summer.

The Historic Churches series is a project of the Chippewa County Historical Society.

It was reorganized in 2000 from the earlier Pathways program by Arline Fitzmaurice and Sharon MacLaren.

2013 marks the Society’s 13th year of showcasing these landmark structures that have played significant roles in the cultural history of Sault Ste. Marie.

Residents and visitors to the Sault area are invited to attend these free programs.

Schedules are available at various locations, including the participating churches, the Chippewa County Historical Society, Bayliss Public Library, and area businesses.
