Pat Boone issues statement over the death of James Brown, says the singer was a "... comet blazing across the night sky ..."

LOS ANGELES, December 28 - Music giant Pat Boone, like millions of Americans was hit by shock, over the death of legendary icon R&B singer James Brown.

Boone recently released his new CD Pat Boone R&B Classics - We Are Family that featured James Brown in new-recorded version of "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag."

"My friend James Brown was a comet, blazing across the night sky for 50 years," Pat Boone said.

"Thankfully, we can still enjoy the brilliance long after the star burns out," said Boone.

"I'll forever treasure the private time we shared in Augusta when we recorded one of his classics together; he was deeper and more spiritual than many realized," Boone said.

"I'm looking forward to our next meeting."

James Brown always referred to Boone as "Soul brotha' Number 2."

He would often kid Boone about Boone's parents' appetite for chitlins.

Ollie E. Brown, producer for Boone's recent music project, shares in Boone's sorrow.

Brown was also a personal friend to James Brown.
