The Algoma Arts Festival Association is pleased to announce that joining the celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the first trip box car trip to Algoma of the Group of Seven is The National Ballet of Canada.

From Oct. 18 to 20, The National Ballet of Canada will be performing “The Dreamers Ever Leave You”, created by Robert Binet and inspired by the work of Lawren Harris featuring original music by composer Lubonyr Melnyk.

Dancers will surround the audience inside The Art Gallery of Algoma in an immersive ballet performance moving freely under shifting light and colour, evoking Harris’ majestic visions of light, land and sky.

“The Dreamers Ever Leave You is a thrilling, immersive ballet…a remarkable and moving experience.” The Globe and Mail

These performances are part of several events taking place during the 2018 Algoma Fall Festival 100th Anniversary celebration.

Also presented is Algoma Discovered; an exhibition at the Art Gallery of Algoma of their permanent collection of the Group of Seven along with many original pieces from private and public collections never before presented in Sault Ste. Marie with works by each of the Group of Seven artists.

Group of Seven Style painting classes and a photography competition by The Art Gallery of Algoma are additional activities featured during this year’s Festival.

"The Art Gallery of Algoma is excited to host the exhibition Algoma Discovered and thrilled to host the performance by The National Ballet of Canada in the Gallery space for the first time. This performance inspired by the works of Lawren Harris, Group of Seven founding member, will add a valuable element to the exhibition. We look forward to presenting this new and stimulating experience at the Gallery connecting visual art with music and dance, in partnership with the Algoma Fall Festival," says Jasmina Jovanovic, Executive Director, Art Gallery of Algoma

The 2018 Algoma Fall Festival also features Sharon and Bram, Ashley MacIsaac, Mary Walsh, Fortunate Ones, Jeanne Beker with Mark Sakamoto and Soulpepper Theatre Company’s The 27 Club.
