This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience the Sudbury-based artist that Obscure Sound calls "one of Canada's most underrated songwriters."

In addition to recording and performing with his own band, Nathan Lawr and the Minotaurs, Lawr has been granted the honour of being associated with other great Canadian acts, including King Cobb Steelie, Royal City, Cuff the Duke, the Fembots, the Hylozoists and Jim Guthrie.

Lawr describes his captivating sound as: "If Fela went to Guelph and after getting drunk at the Albion watching Shadowy Men On A Shadowy Planet do their best rendition of a Bob Dylan cover of a Gordon Lightfoot song, caught a ride to Hillside with Neil Young who was going there to play in a work-shop with Toots after having just smoked a big one with Lee Perry and Freddie Hubbard, and wound up sleeping on the grass right next to Jim Cuddy who had totally passed out on top of the Band, and woke up to find out he wasn't in Guelph at all but in the middle of an orchestra performance of Drumming by Steve Reich. That's what it sounds like."

Joining Lawr in the Sault is Kate Maki, the Sudbury songstress whose first two albums, Confusion Unlimited and The Sun Will Find Us, were both chosen as Album of the Year by the Northern Ontario Music and Film Awards.

According to NPR, her 2008 release On High "is a collection of pastoral country-folk songs that soar with gentle beauty."

Exclaim! magazine says of the album: "Life and energy, light and hope are Maki’s muses for On High, and even though there are a few shadows lurking in the corners of her music, they just go to show how bright the sun can be if you let it shine through.”

These two outstanding artists are set to take over the living room of the Sault's own Kalle Wainio (front man for Kalle Mattson) on Friday, September 19, 2008.

Doors open at 8 p.m.

Tickets, available at Arcadia Coffee House (823 Queen St.E.) or by calling (705) 945-5127, are $10 each.
