SOOTODAY SUN MOVIE RATINGS

PLOT- Michael Newman (Sandler) is a workaholic architect with a heart of gold. He wants to be a good husband to his wife Donna (Beckinsale) and his two kids, but his boss (Hasselhoff) works him raw.

Newman finally has a breakdown when he can’t watch a movie on Japanese architecture. He drives aimlessly looking for a universal remote control he heard his next door neighbors own and finds himself at Bed, Bath and Beyond.

This is where it gets fun.

Newman meets Morty (Walken) who offers a remote control. The catch: It can’t be returned. From here, hilarity ensues...but disaster does too.

CAST- Great cast all around. Sandler’s hilarious. Beckinsale plays the perfect hot, supportive wife. Christopher Walken seems to be playing himself in a lot of movies, but we all get it. Then there is the Fonz. Henry Winkler plays Sandlers fathers. They even sort of look a like. You might not realize it right off the bat but Sandlers mother is played by Julie Kavner. Yes, the voice of Marge Simpson. Sean Astin also has a small role as a Speedo wearing good guy. Also, keep and eye out for a small cameo by Rob Schnider.

HUMOUR FACTOR-Sandler is hilarious. It’s fun to watch him in the different stages of his life no matter how depressing it is. Hasselhoff hits the mark as the arrogant and sometimes flighty boss. Sandler brings back the lovable O’Doyle name for one more go too. It’s great to hear him say the name again. Slap-stick, sarcasm, and the inevitable Sandler rant fuels this comedy. Of course, it’s always a pleasure to hear Walken say his lines in his famous staccato way.

TEAR FACTOR- If you’re easily brought to tears you might want to bring a box of tissues. Sandler pulls out some serious acting by the end of the movie. Nothing like what he’s done in Punch Drunk Love, but if you’re willing to shed a few...it’ll happen. But don’t worry, you’ll walk out with a smile.

OVERALL MOVIE GOODNESS-The basic message to this movie: Life is about the journey, not the destination. Enjoy the little things. Stop and smell the roses.

Sandlers character learns a valuable life lesson the hard way, sort of. I can’t help but think Sandlers fathers passing had a lot to do with this film. The father/son struggle is a huge part of this film.
But don’t worry, there are plenty of laughs along the way.
