NEWS RELEASE

MUSICAL COMEDY GUILD

*************************
The Musical Comedy Guild (MCG) is proud to announce its cast for Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins.

The Sault Ste. Marie premiere production will run from November 25 to 29, 2015 at the Community Theatre Centre.

Mary Poppins is a visually stunning, family-friendly musical based on the Disney movie classic, featuring an enchanting mixture of irresistible story, unforgettable songs, breathtaking dance numbers, and astonishing stagecraft.

The lead role of Mary Poppins will be performed by Shana Brown.

Bert will be performed by Lucas Beaver while Jane and Michael Banks will be performed by Avery Hemsworth and Ryan Mauro.

Mike Doherty and Darla Pirillo will play Mr. and Mrs. Banks while Miss Andrew will be played by Donna Hilsinger and the Bird Woman by Penny Gribbon.

The musical will also feature an all-star ensemble!

We have a stellar production team led by director, Timothy Murphy (The Wizard of Oz, White Christmas).

Paul Dingle (Les Misérables, Jesus Christ Superstar), faculty at Algoma University will serve as music director.

Richard Kim of Studio Dance Arts will provide principal choreography and the family friendly musical will be produced by Thomas Brandstetter (Annie, Les Misérables).

Dancers from Studio Dance Arts will also be featured in the production.

Over the summer, cast members performed the National Anthem and a variety of songs at the Canada Day Celebrations at the Bondar Pavilion.

MCG also partnered with the United Way of Sault Ste. Marie during the “Great Books” themed Rotaryfest Community Day Parade winning first place for best Human Powered Float with its Mary Poppins English rooftop inspired theme.

MCG had discounted tickets on sale till August 31 and nearly 1500 tickets, or 35 percent of the available tickets were picked up by eager theatre patrons.

Tickets are available at the Box Office in the Station Mall or online at www.kctc.ca

Based on ticket sales to date, this production is sure to sell out!

In order to bring everyone’s favorite practically perfect nanny to the stage in a Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious way, we want to make Mary Poppins fly.

But because of the technical and safety requirements for this amazing special effect, the estimate to make Mary fly is $10,000.

This is above and beyond MCG’s regular production costs for a show of this scale and calibre.

To make this amazing special effect happen, MCG is looking for 100 people to make a $100 tax-deductible donation.

Donors will receive a charitable donation tax receipt for the full amount and be recognized in the lobby for the run of performances as well as in the program.

Those that donate $250 will receive 2 tickets to the Friday, November 27 performance as well as 2 tickets the Pre-Show Gala on the same night.

You will receive a charitable donation tax receipt for $200 and be recognized in the lobby for the run of performances as well as in the program.

If you want to help make Mary Poppins fly, please contact Thomas Brandstetter by phoning 705-942-0494 or by emailing him at [email protected].

MCG is a charitable not-for-profit organization dedicated to producing the highest quality musical theatre entertainment, providing training for emerging artists, and showcasing artistic talent within the Algoma region for over 50 years.
