LSSU offers young writers publication party

SAULT STE. MARIE, MICH - A Lake Superior State University language and literacy skills class – EDUC 411 – is organizing a publication party 1-3 p.m. at Sault Ste. Marie’s Bayliss Public Library when Young Writers’ Month concludes on Nov. 11.

Young Writers’ Month encourages kindergarten throug sixth-grade students to have fun reading and writing narratives. The initiative is similar to National Novel Writing Month, except for young writers. This year’s writing theme is, Who’s your hero? Students can write narratives about real-life or fictional heroes.

The Nov. 11 party will offer kids chance to read their stories to adults, to one another, or to the HOPE therapy dogs that will attend the event. There will also be refreshments and sheet cake by Ella Cakes.

After the party, hero narratives go on display in the children’s room at Bayliss. Submissions will also be considered for the 2017 LSSU Young Authors anthology compiled by EDUC 411 students.

Submissions must be accompanied by an entry form found by following the first hit on a Web search on LSSU Young Authors. The page also has lesson plans and model text recommendations for parents and teachers.
