Loplops gets dirty tonight

Hear the name The Divorcees and images of a gang of fellas, footloose and fancy-free out to sow their wild oats may come to mind. Or songs of heartache, alcohol, women and hard times sung in true outlaw fashion may be heard.

Hear the name The Divorcees and images of a gang of fellas, footloose and fancy-free out to sow their wild oats may come to mind.

Or songs of heartache, alcohol, women and hard times sung in true outlaw fashion may be heard.

With old-school influences such as Johnny Cash, Hank Williams and Waylon Jennings, the Divorcees are quickly becoming an integral component in the newest insurgence of Canadian roots music joining the likes of Corb Lund and The Road Hammers at the top of their game.

Based out of Moncton New Brunswick, The Divorcees' gritty and worn brand of homegrown music has brought them fame and acclaim throughout Eastern Canada, and with the release of their debut album You Ain’t Getting' My Country, they have set their sights, not on Nashville but the rest of Canada to conquer.

Preferring the dust of the road and worn Levis to shoe polish and silk shirts, the Divorcees perform songs about real life, dirty, faded and not always pretty.

"Real, honest and true," says guitarist and vocalist Jason Haywood, "Kickin' and screamin' like a fella at a shotgun wedding!"

Nashville may be not want this group of outlaw Northern boys tarnishing the clean image of today's new country, and You Ain't Getting' My Country could be a statement reflecting this.

Sault Ste. Marie welcomes these outlaws with open arms and a beer chaser.

The honky tonk begins at 9:30 p.m. with the boys of the Divorcees kickin' up some dust tonight (Friday October 13) at Loplops Gallery-Lounge as a part of their Trans-Canada takeover.

Cowboy hats and worn Levis are not required and there is no cover for this show.
