Look who made Roberta Bondar cry

Harmony Sisters Pauline Parent and Rosanne Swift released Raven Blue, their first full-length CD of original music last night.

After the show, Swift remembered Bondar's reaction to the tribute song the duet wrote for her in 1992.

"I'm never happy to say we made someone cry," said Swift. "But those were tears of joy."

The Harmony Sisters received awards and plenty of praise for Voyage of Discovery, which was used in a video documentary in 1992.

Last night, the Harmony Sisters were also supported by a substantial line up of local musicians, including Larry Borek who co-wrote or wrote many of the songs on the disk.

Also appearing both on Raven Blue and stage with the Harmony Sisters were Ed Young, and Pierre Vaillancourt.

Cliff Alloy stepped up to the drum kit for the stage show to fill Ed Young's other seat (Young played some guitar and drums on the CD).

Audience reaction to the show made it obvious that the Harmony Sisters have a power to move everyone.

"The CD brings together the things that we love," said Swift.

And love is what brought them to produce a CD.

Love and Larry Borek.

Borek is the owner of Red Gecko Studio and producer of local greats like Chris Belsito, who opened for the Harmony Sisters last night and Catherine Taddo.

Borek so liked the sound of the Harmony Sisters' voices when they sung background vocals on Taddo's CD This Way that he asked them to sing some of the songs he had written, said Swift.

"We just had to do it because we loved the music so much," said Swift. "We can't leave it alone."

The trio brought in more musicians and worked on the project for about two years before releasing it last night.
