Lake Superior State University creative writing professor Julie Barbour will read from her recently-released chapbook of poetry, Come To Me and Drink, at 7 p.m. September 27, in the Bayliss Public Library, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.

She is a guest of the library's Superior Poetry Café series that features a poet and an open microphone for the audience to share poetry, stories... even music.

Barbour's pocket-sized volume, published June 29, is intended to be read (and reread) quickly so its 18-lyric poems form and evolve one "verse-byte" at a time.

The work approaches the world of being a mother, from pregnancy to birth, from nursing a child to leaving a child for the first time.

The poems also explore the anxiety of being a mother.

A book signing by Barbour follows the reading.

Visit LSSU's campus bookstore, or run a Web search on Finishing Line Press, to purchase a copy.
