Studio Dance Arts receives highest score at Terpsichore Dance Competition

SAULT STE. MARIE - Canada’s largest dance competition, Terpsichore Dance Celebration, was held in Sault Ste. Marie on April 16 and April 17 as part of their 19-city national competition tour of Canada.

Studios from across Northern Ontario including Sault Ste. Marie, Elliot Lake, Wawa, Sudbury and North Bay, participated in the 10-year celebration of this renowned event.

At the conclusion of the weekend, the three member panel of judges from Los Angeles and Toronto, entered their scores and awarded SDA’s intermediate/ advanced ballet group Les Toreadors the highest score of the entire competition.

“I want to extend a huge congratulations to all of our dancers and to our competitive faculty for their outstanding work at Terpsichore,” comments Richard Kim, founder/director of Studio Dance Arts. “This event marked the first official time our Sault and Elliot Lake Competitive Company shared the stage and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the results in both the standings and the camaraderie displayed.

"Our school has done quite a bit of travelling attending various events throughout the US and Canada and I have to say that Terpsichore’s Sault Ste. Marie competition had one of the most respectful, professional and positive energies we’ve ever encountered. It was a wonderful weekend of dance and respect for all involved.

"Congratulations to all of the participating schools and our colleagues, and thank you to Terpsichore for hosting such an outstanding event here in the Sault.”

The event lasted two days at the Kiwanis Community Theatre Centre.

Hundreds of people from across the region attended including family, friends and spectators.

A three-member panel of professional adjudicators from Toronto and Los Angeles judged all entries in the competition.

Studio Dance Arts entered routines at all levels from both their Sault Ste. Marie and Elliot Lake studios with Matthew Caruso, Jessica Charron, Tania Castellani, Pam Robins and Christine Brunet leading the competitive faculty.

These winning routines, along with all dancers from Studio Dance Arts will be seen at the popular year-end shows.

This year we are excited to have three shows across the region.

SDA Live Blind River will be held on May 25, SDA Live Elliot Lake on June 4 and SDA Live Sault Ste. Marie on June 18.
