SAULT STE. MARIE, MI - Singer/songwriter Jonathan Rundman will embark on a solo-acoustic tour across the Great Lakes region in May.

A native of the western U.P., he will perform at Bayliss Public Library (in Sault Michigan) on Thursday, May 14, at 7 p.m.

His concert will be free for all ages.

Born and raised in an isolated Finnish-American community, Jonathan Rundman has been writing songs and performing them since he was 18 years old.

He emerged on the national scene as a Chicago-based touring artist, generating rave reviews in Billboard, The New York Times, Performing Songwriter, and other publications.

Now living in Minneapolis, he continues to tour and record.

His songs have been featured on “Ellen” and “CBS Sunday Morning.”

Look Up is his new release; his first album of all-new songs in a decade. “

Rundman turns in a hi-fi power-pop tour de force.

The album navigates the uncharted spaces between midcentury heartland twang, ‘80s new wave, and archaic Euro-folk.”

His music has been described by The New York Times as “bright, catchy indie pop.”

He will delight us with his “Librarian” song.

Michigan folk music fans will recognize Rundman from his appearances at the Hiawatha Traditional Music Festival in Marquette, FinnFest in Houghton/Hancock, the Porcupine Mountain Music Festival in Ontonagon, and the Great Lakes Folk Festival in East Lansing, as well as various performances at theatres and colleges around the state.

He explores his Finnish-American identity in his music, and has toured the U.P. with the band Kaivama, who performed a few years ago at the Sugar Island Finn Hall.

CDs will be available for purchase and signing at the library event.
