Jonathan Johnson to appear at Superior Poetry Café

On Thursday, July 11, at 7 p.m., Bayliss Public Library (in Sault Michigan) will host its next Superior Poetry Café, with featured poet Jonathan Johnson, and open mic.

Johnson was one of the authors who visited the library on the 2011 U.P. Book Tour.

He migrates between upper Michigan, Scotland, and Washington State, where he teaches in the MFA program at Eastern Washington University.

Jonathan Johnson is the author of two books of poems, Mastodon, 80% Complete (2001) and In the Land We Imagined Ourselves (2010), both from Carnegie Mellon University Press, and the nonfiction book Hannah and the Mountain: Notes Toward a Wilderness Fatherhood (University of Nebraska Press, 2005).

His work has appeared in the Best American Poetry and numerous other anthologies, as well as Southern Review, Missouri Review, Ploughshares, North American Review, and The Prairie Schooner.

In March, EWU Theatre premiered his play Ode about John Keats and Fanny Brawne.

The new book The Way North: Collected Upper Peninsula New Works, edited by Ron Riekki, includes an introduction by Johnson, as well as a poem and a story he wrote.

Johnson will have copies of his books available for purchase and signing.

Join us for this special opportunity to hear Jonathan Johnson.

After his reading, the public is invited to participate in an open mic.

Poetry, other writing, stories, and music are welcome.

Friends of the Library will provide refreshments.

Bayliss Public Library is now a member of the Superior District Library.

It is located at 541 Library Drive in Sault Ste. Marie.
