From Peterborough, Ontario, The Mayhemingways will perform tonight (Friday, June 5) at 180 Projects Gallery located at 180 Gore Street.

The alt-country duo features multi-instrumentalist Benj Rowland and Josh Fewings on percussion.

“Only being two forces us to try harder to make every part of the music happen when we are playing live," Rowland told Ken Kelley of The Music Nerd Chronicles in July 2014. "On one hand, it makes for harder work for both Josh and I, but I actually really enjoy working as a duo.”

Working together since 2012, their 2014 self-titled debut EP was produced by James McKenty (Blue Rodeo, The Sadies, Cuff the Duke).

Of the release, Peterborough's Electric City Live wrote:

"… perhaps more than anything, Mayhemingways is a showcase for Benj Rowland the songwriter. Over the album’s five tracks (four originals), we get story songs of love, loss, and contemplation, story songs and a goofy, high-energy barn burner, too (Drama Queen) Rowland’s lyrics are sparse, direct and honest with little embellishment, but simple can be powerful. In Sad, Single and Sorry, a song about a failed relationship, he sings the evocative words, 'I had a woman and we had some plans / till we both found out what kind of man that I am'."

Tonight's performance 180 Projects Gallery begins at 7 p.m. and includes an opening set from Sault Ste. Marie's Mister Tahti.

Admission to this all-ages event is $10.
