Local dancers accepted into two of Canada's prestigious ballet schools

Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario – Several local dance students from Studio Dance Arts auditioned for and were accepted into two of Canada’s leading professional ballet schools.

The National Ballet of Canada and The Royal Winnipeg Ballet, both stopped in Sault Ste. Marie during their national audition tours, scouting for dancers with ballet potential.

The following Studio Dance Arts students received invitations to train at these highly esteemed ballet schools:

The National Ballet School of Canada has accepted Mikaela Chorney, Sara Hinding, Haleigh Longo, Caitlin McMaster, Madeline Foster, Asia Nolan and Johnny McMillan into their professional summer program in Toronto, Ontario.

Madeline Foster attended the one month summer program last year and was invited to attend their full time program. She did not have to re-audition and was pre-accepted into this year’s program.

The Royal Winnipeg Ballet School has accepted Mikaela Chorney, Sara Hinding, Caitlin McMaster, Asia Nolan, Alex Reid and Johnny McMillan into their professional summer program in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

All of these students are members of the SDA Company, with its ballet program headed by Miss Jessica Charron.

Originally from Sault Ste. Marie and a former student of Kim Greco, Miss Charron relocated to Belleville, Ontario at the age of ten years to pursue full time ballet studies with The Quinte Ballet School of Canada.

She has trained under the Vaganova, Cecchetti and RAD methods of ballet, and has attained the very difficult Advanced Cecchetti Status.

It is the world's largest teaching and examining organization for classical ballet.

Since 1996, The National Ballet School in Toronto, recognizing the effectiveness of the RAD system, introduced the syllabus to its Teacher Training Program.

Studio Dance Arts, under the direction of Richard Kim, is the only school in Sault Ste. Marie and the surrounding Algoma area, that is certified and registered to be able to offer dance students the world renowned RAD ballet technique and exams.

Located in downtown Sault Ste. Marie, the school's facility is the largest of its kind in the Algoma region, offering three large dance studios with professional dance flooring.

The Studio Dance Arts faculty consists of internationally trained professional dancer/ teacher/ choreographer/ adjudicators, including: Richard Kim, Jessica Charron, Carolyn Caputo-McCauley, Tania Castellani, Helga Szabo, Tracee Smith, Elizabeth Hooper and Timothy Murphy.
