How the Sault does New Year's Eve (new photos)

Family-friendly New Year's Eve celebrations seem to be quite a trend in Sault Ste. Marie this year. The Harper/Rowlinson family celebrated a kid-friendly alcohol-free New Year with confetti, treats, hats and noise makers.

The Harper/Rowlinson family celebrated a kid-friendly alcohol-free New Year with confetti, treats, hats and noise makers.

Selina Harper tells us the kids had a great time and danced the night away.

Teena and Mat Post [shown] rang in 2009 with a small gathering of friends and neighbours.

"This is an annual event we do each year," Teena said in her e-mail to SooToday.com. "During this event, we all bring our Christmas trees to the party and we have a large bonfire in the backyard and watch the year go up in flames with lots of food and cheer!"

SooToday.com's Carol Martin and daughter Nova spent the evening at the first annual International Family Fun Night at the Essar Centre.

Stefanie Maione sent us pictures from a kid-friendly pajama party that her friends and family attended.

"Thank you so much for allowing us to share our wonderful night, spent in our pajamas," she wrote. "To all the readers on SooToday, Happy New Year!"
