Hitman Productions dude brings Helix to the Sault

Following a less than optimal turn out for Jackyl and Slaughter at the Sault Ste. Marie Sports and Entertainment Centre this past May, and the unfortunate cancellation of Skid Row's June 28th outdoor concert at Runway Park, the future of Hitman Productions seemed uncertain at best.

After careful consideration, plenty of advice-seeking and a lot of organizing, Hitman principal Stephane Guindon has emerged with a new mandate and a fresh approach to music promotion.

The newly formed Sault and Area Local Music Committee is comprised of local band representatives, businesses and organizations, including The Sault Roller Girls, UFC Boxing, SAW Wrestling, Energy Rock Radio and the Sault Community Skatepark Association.

Its mission is to showcase local talent while "taking Canada by storm, making the Sault a national music hot spot."

"What I noticed is that no one really saw the big picture I was striving for in order to help out the community and local artists," says Guindon, who says he's no longer associated with Hitman Productions. "So I decided to bring it all together and form a music committee and unite all the bands and different organizations. Instead of only me and a couple of people promoting a show, I now have an army to help get the word out there and support every show."

The committee will also do its part to aid local talent with recording, touring, funding and promotion.

First up on the Sault and Area Local Music Committee's entertainment roster is an appearance by Canadian rock band Helix at the Canadian Night Club (410 Pim St.) on Saturday, July 19.

Opening this show will be the recent winners of the Case's Music Battle of the Bands (high school division), Stillbroke.

Doors open at 9 p.m. and admission is $10.

You must be 18 or older to attend.
