The Female Eye Film Festival (FeFF) will premiere a free screening of the documentary My Life, My Community, My Ontario – created in partnership with students of White Pines CVS – in a week-long integrated art workshop.

My Life, My Community, My Ontario – which addresses the theme of sexual violence and harassment against Indigenous women in Ontario – will screen at the Sault Community Theatre Centre on Tuesday, May 29 beginning at 12:30 p.m. with opening remarks by elders in the community followed by a performance by the Braided Sweetgrass Singers.

The documentary features female students, 13-17 years of age, from White Pines CVS, most of whom came from Batchewana First Nations and Garden River First Nations, working alongside artists culled from the FeFF; local soapstone artist, Phil Jones and other community partners including local elders who contributed to the success of the program.

“Through the Female Eye’s commitment to the Indigenous community and our social activism as an intersectional feminist organization it is imperative to shine a light on social injustices,” said Leslie-Ann Coles, founder and artistic director, FeFF. “This documentary reflects our belief that art impacts social change.”

My Life, My Community, My Ontario is supported by the Ontario Arts Council Creative Engagement Fund, It’s Never Okay, and the Canada Council for the Arts, Community Collaboration Project Grant with the support of Garden River First Nations, Batchewana First Nations, and Women in Crisis Algoma.

The Female Eye Film Festival is a not-for-profit annual competitive international film festival – celebrating women directors on screen since 2001 – in Toronto, Canada. Going into its 16th year, FeFF will take place from June 26 - July 1 at the Daniels Spectrum.
