New music and video download service raises Ruckus at LSSU

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI – Lake Superior State University students have a new way of obtaining songs and videos through the Internet with the arrival of Ruckus Network Inc. on campus.

Ruckus is now providing LSSU with a legal entertainment network that supplies free music downloads specifically for college students.

The service is available to students on or off campus throughout the year.

The program is the first college-only service that blends social networking features with a massive and continuously expanding library of free, legal and safe music downloads.

Ruckus is already available at more than 100 colleges and universities across the country.

With Ruckus, LSSU students may legally download and share music, create playlists, send personal media recommendations to friends and neighbors, browse classmates' profiles and media libraries and meet new friends.

Students may also build their personal music libraries from Ruckus' collection of more than 2.7 million high-fidelity, virus-free songs.

Ruckus eliminates copyright infringement through its licensing agreements with all of the major international record labels, as well as thousands of independent labels and artists.

Faculty and staff may also take advantage of the partnership for a low monthly fee.

"The service through Ruckus allows us to offer our students another way to connect with each other, as well as a safe, legal and free way for them to obtain and share digital media," said Jay Schupp, Director of Information Technology at LSSU. "Because Ruckus provides the LSSU community with music and video content without sacrificing campus bandwidth, this agreement benefits everyone involved."

"We are very excited to make our music service available to students at LSSU," said Mairin Brzica, director of Campus Relations at Ruckus. "LSSU students have been e-mailing us for months requesting subscriptions, and we are happy to now provide a digital entertainment network – and a safe and legal solution to file-sharing – at no cost to students or to the school."

Students may begin using the service by visiting Ruckus.com, clicking on "Join Ruckus" and entering an "edu" e-mail address.

The registration process takes only a few minutes.
