Loplops and Browntasauras Records presents an entire weekend of electro-jazz featuring Brownman Ali from Brooklyn, N.Y. The award-winning jazz trumpeter will showcase his talents during LopLop's Electro-Jazz Weekend Fest Friday, July 27 through Sunday, July 29.

Brownman – who has recorded, performed and toured with the likes of Jay-z, Guru, KRS-One, Missy Elliot and many others – is set to host five unique performances with a variety of artists throughout the weekend including local favourite, My Son the Hurricane.

Electro-Jazz Weekend Fest is  the brainchild of Loplops owner Stephen Alexander, a long-time fan of Brownman's abilities. Loplops hosted the Brownman Electryc Trio during its 2011 Canadian tour. Unfortunately, the group hasn't been back to the Sault since due to Ali's intense international touring schedule.

Heralded as "Canada's preeminent jazz trumpet player" by the New York Village Voice, Brownman leads a staggering eight groups of his own, all housed under to his Brooklyn based record label Browntasauras Records. After spending years touring the globe with the legendary jazz-hip-hop group Guru's Jazzmatazz (of Gangstarr fame), he now splits his time between Brooklyn, New York and Toronto, Canada where he has been in demand as a featured soloist with A-listers such as Jay-z, Missy Elliot, Mos Def, Quincy Jones and Paul Simon.

A call from Brownman's New York management team stating there was a six-day opening in his current touring schedule prompted Alexander to create this weekend of jazz exploration with Brown as the central Artist-In-Residence, bringing this global talent and his musicians to Sault Ste. Marie.

"I believe strongly we can enrich the culture of this community through shows like this. You don't want to miss seeing this guy! He's incredible to watch, and does things on trumpet you have to hear to believe,” says Alexander.
