Exhibit by new and emerging artists opens in Alberta House Arts Center

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI - An exhibit of work by new and emerging artists opens Tuesday, November 3, in Alberta House Arts Center.

The first Emerging Artists exhibit was held in November of last year.

Curated both this year and last by Shena Sloboda, the show is designed to encourage young and emerging artists to exhibit their work, by making the process easy and non-intimidating.

The non-juried show was open to the original work of all artists, whatever their medium.

All that was required was that they bring up to three pieces of original work to Alberta House on either of two designated days, install their own display, and dismantle it after the show.

The show was also designed to make the community part of the process.

Awards will be decided by ballots cast by people when they view the show.

The awards include the $150 Joan Muckelbauer Memorial Award, a $75 Second Place Award donated by the Olive Craig Gallery, a $50 certificate donated by the Art Store and three $10 certificates donated by Islands Books & Crafts.

Ballots will be counted and awards presented midway through the November 20 reception which is open to all.

Hors d’ oeuvres and beverages for the reception are sponsored by Karl’s Cuisine and 1668 Winery/Lockside Brewery.

The show will close Saturday, November 28.

Alberta House is located at 217 Ferris Street just half a block south of the Soo Locks in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.

It is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and admission is free of charge.

It will be closed on Thanksgiving Day.
