Monday, July 2, Loplops Gallery-Lounge will host a special performance by ex-Thornley and Watchmen member, Ken Tizzard.

Currently touring central and western Canada in support of his latest CD, Quiet Story House...an Introduction, this will be his first performance as a solo artist in Sault Ste. Marie.

About Ken Tizzard

"It was not until I realized how totally alone I was that I finally began to discover my own sound" - Ken Tizzard

Ken Tizzard's years as the lunging bass player with the platinum and gold award-winning Canadian rockers The Watchmen and later, Thornley garnered him an international reputation as one of Canada's leading sidemen.

With a string of top 10 singles and appearances from Russia to Australia to The Tonight Show, he has had a fantastic run thus far.

Now Ken Tizzard is redefining what we know about him with a break-out solo CD of words and music that land him somewhere between Bach and Nick Drake.

Using the bass as his primary accompaniment, Quiet Story House...an Introduction is unusual and warm.

From the stripped down If You Were Wrong (Naked) to the multi-layered Thirteen, this album takes the listener on a journey unlike any other.

Mixed by award-winning Los Angeles producer John Whynot (Blue Rodeo, Bruce Cockburn, Sue Foley, Big Wreck and Colin James, among others), sounds that once only existed in Ken Tizzard's imagination have come to life.

"Having John come onboard with this record was a dream come true. He took everything I was doing and put it in exactly the right place" - Ken Tizzard

Ken Tizzard on the solo tour

I love the intimacy and connection to the audience that the stripped down approach (bass and voice) provides.

I have also had the opportunity to perform a selection of my songs with the accompaniment of the Toronto and Kitchener/Waterloo symphony – unbelievable.

Following this classical hybrid dream takes a lot of time and effort but when it happens it is wonderful.

As well, there is a trio consisting of Kevin Young (Moist, David Usher) and Mike Billiard (the Herny’s).

Occasionally Bill Davenport will join me on 12-string guitar for Men At Work’s Overkill and Husker Du’s Too Far Down.

Outside of my original music, I perform innovative arrangements of 80’s songs by artists such as REM, Husker Du, Tears For Fears, Men At Work & David Bowie.

As well, I delve into the folky side of John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and of course Nick Drake.

The live show is a polar opposite to my past, still intense, but totally different.
