The Sault Symphony Orchestra presents an evening of 'Romance & Rhapsody' on February 12, 2011

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON (January 25, 2011) - Accomplished pianist Joel Hastings joins the Sault Symphony Orchestra on February 12, 2011, at the Kiwanis Community Theatre Centre for "Romance & Rhapsody."

This marks the fourth concert event presented in the symphony’s 38th season.

During this special evening, audience members will delight in some of the world’s most renowned compositions.

The pieces performed will include an Overture to Rosamunde (Franze Schubert), Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini (Sergei Rachmaninoff), Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 (Franz Liszt), Rumanian Rhapsody No. 1 (George Enescu) and Bolero (Maurice Ravel).

Canadian-born Joel Hastings was the winner of the 2006 eighth International Web Concert Hall Competition and the 1993 International Bach Competition at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.



Mr. Hastings has performed solo recitals across Canada and the United States, while his orchestral engagements have included the Toronto Philharmonic, the University of Michigan Symphonies, the Kitchener-Waterloo and Michigan Chamber Orchestras, the Ann Arbor Concert Band and many others.

As a collaborative artist, Mr. Hastings has toured internationally with vocal ensembles, performing in such venues as the Vatican and St. Paul's Cathedral in London, and he has recorded with the Cranbrook Singers of Michigan and the University of Michigan Symphony Band.

From the Royal Conservatory of Music, Mr. Hastings earned his ARCT diplomas in piano and organ, receiving a gold medal for the highest score in the country.


He holds degrees in both instruments from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and taught as visiting faculty at the University of Windsor, Ontario.

Additionally, he has given master-classes and adjudicated competitions and festivals across Canada and the United States.

Tickets to the event are on sale now at the Station Mall Box office or online.

As a long-standing supporter of the youth in our community and to ensure our young people have many opportunities to participate in arts and culture events, the Sault Symphony is pleased to be able to offer its student rush seats for this event.

Student rush tickets are available at the door on the night of the event, beginning at 7:30 p.m .and are only $5 per ticket.

These are available on a first-come-first-served basis.

Of course, to guarantee a seat, the symphony also offers student pricing of just $12 in advance through the box office.

This event also provides concert attendees with a great opportunity to meet the deadline to a special symphony discount offer.

February 15 marks the deadline to save $10 off the price of the anticipated John McDermott’s "A Celtic Celebration" concert event on September 24, 2011, with the order of a symphony’s 39th Season concert subscription.

This concert is already selling very well and those interested are encouraged to get their tickets soon and take advantage of this limited time promotional offer.
