Chicago Dueling Piano Show - A fundraiser for Welcome Friend Association’s Rainbow Camp

“We are thrilled to raise funds for this important cause in such a fun, irreverent way.”

One of the hottest entertainment acts in North America is coming to Sudbury on Friday, April 5 and Thessalon on April 6.

Chicago’s Dueling Pianists, Jen Porter and John Jones, have been raising money for local charities over the past five years.

They never fail to pack the house.

The two singer-songwriters combine passionate vocals and top-notch piano styles with a repertoire that ranges from Cole Porter to Coldplay, Leonard Cohen to Green Day.

The show is based on requests from the audience interspersed with raucous comedic antics that, depending on the audience, can get pretty naughty.

“Raunch is a part of life,” says Porter about the tastier parts of her show. “It can be embarrassing to some folks, but it gets them, it wakes them up and engages them.”

Porter is an acclaimed singer, songwriter, and entertainer who has performed in piano bars throughout Europe and the Caribbean.

She also regularly sings the U.S. national anthem opener for the Chicago White Sox and has opened for the Chicago Bulls and the Detroit Pistons.

As a singer-songwriter, she has released four albums and built an impressive following.

Jones has also entertained crowds from around the world on cruise lines and in piano bars.

As a song-writer, he’s seen his songs recorded internationally.

R&B/jazz vocalist Maysa Leak of the British funk group Incognito has recorded two of his songs on her solo albums.

Jones has released three of his own albums.

The show is a fundraiser for Rainbow Camp, the only camp in Ontario - and one of the first in Canada - for 13-to 17-year-old youth who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, two-spirit, or questioning.

At camp these young people have the chance to meet teens like themselves from all over the country and develop the self-esteem necessary to withstand bullying and grow into healthy adults.

In Sudbury

The show takes place at Zigs bar, 54 Elm Street, Sudbury.

“This is a first for us”, says Choco Productions spokesperson (the event promoter), Chris Southin. “We have never promoted a show in a gay bar - for that matter Northern Ontario’s only gay bar.”

We are told Sudbury is a welcoming community - this show is one of the major fundraising events for Welcome Friend’s Rainbow Camp!

In Thessalon

The show takes place at the I.O.O.F. Hall on Main St. Thessalon, across from the town’s post office, on Saturday April 6.

Dinner and show cost $25.

Tickets on sale at ForestLand, Stedman’s and Hair Designs in Thessalon and the Rad Zone in Sault Ste. Marie.

Choco Productions is helping to promote the show, and in true Choco Productions style, Chris Southin will be presenting one of his famous monologues to open the show.
