Don't take our eggheads for granted (video, photos)

And the 3rd Annual 12 Musicians of Christmas concert at Loplops Gallery-Lounge Thursday night definitely drove that point home.

Featuring Ed Young, Sheldon Jaaskelainen, Shannon Moan, Frank Deresti, Jay Case, Lindsay Pugh, Mark Kuntsi, Rachelle Deresti, Chris Belsito, Mark Dunn, Al Wood and Cliff Alloy, the event showcased homegrown original material in a variety of genres played to a loud and enthusiastic capacity room.

I had full intentions of outlining a few highlights from the evening.

I really did.

But midway through the performance it became painfully obvious that to single out only a few moments would be dreadfully unjust.

The event as a whole was a crowning moment in this city's 2007 entertainment roster.

Just as 18 Forever was a shining example of Sault Ste. Marie's musical history, the 12 Musicians of Christmas was a superb demonstration of the current climate and vast talent pool that is often taken for granted.

In case you were unable to attend, never fear.

The entire show was recorded by Crank Sound Distribution and will be made available for purchase in early 2008.

Loplops' proprietor Steve Alexander was right on the mark when he stated our local musicians are "not just a bunch of eggheads."
