CSI topples Super Bowl; CTV delivers 7 out of 10 top shows of the week

Toronto, February 5 - Not the Super Bowl, not American Idol - nothing gets in the way of ratings powerhouse CSI which continues to steamroll the competition as the most-watched program on Canadian television.

Once again, CSI [shown are stars William Petersen and Marg Helgenberger] is the number one program of the week, besting Super Bowl XLI (down 21 per cent) and leading CTV to seven out of the top 10 programs on Canadian television.

The top 10 programs on television according to Nielsen BBM Media Research for the week ending Sunday, February 4:

1. CSI (CTV) - 3.514 million viewers on February 1

2. Super Bowl XLI (Global) - 3.367 million viewers on February 4

3. American Idol (CTV) - 3.041 million viewers on January 30

4. American Idol (CTV) - 2.781 million viewers on January 31

5. Deal or No Deal (Global) - 2.678 million viewers on February 4

6. House (Global) - 2.622 million viewers on January 30

7. Grey's Anatomy (CTV) - 2.06 million viewers on February 1

8. ER (CTV) - 1.791 million viewers on February 1

9. CSI: New York (CTV) - 1.785 million viewers on January 31

10. CSI: Miami (CTV) - 1.698 million viewers on January 29.

With an average audience of 3.5 million viewers (original episodes), CSI is enjoying its most successful season to date seven years after its premiere.

In this week's episode (airing Thursday, February 8 at 9 p.m. ET on CTV), Grissom returns from his sabbatical as Keppler (guest Star Liev Schreiber) attempts to conceal his ties to a double murder case that he and his colleagues are investigating.

On Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET on CTV, Canadian singer/songwriter and 2007 JUNO Awards host Nelly Furtado makes her primetime television debut on CSI: New York.

Global Television's back-to-back lineup, featuring the unbeatable Bears, Colts, Mandel combination, clearly dominated the night nationally.

Deal or No Deal Canada - 2.7 million total viewers; 1.2 million viewers in key demographic of adults 18-49.

- Audience peaks with 3.1 million total viewers.

- Most-watched premiere of any new program U.S. or Canadian for the 2006-07 season.

- Highest-rated Canadian program of all time on Global.

- Deal or No Deal Canada stomped the special Super-Sunday episode of Criminal Minds beating it by 67 per cent nationally in total viewers, and more than double [for] adults 18-49 (107 per cent).

- In Toronto market, Deal or No Deal Canada was third most-watched program of the week, besting American Idol among key demographic of adults 18-49.

Super Bowl XLI - 3.4 million total viewers; 1.7 million viewers in key demographic of adults 18-49.

- Biggest single-day sporting event in Canada.
