Common cold makes Elliott Brood mean (photos)

A common cold can't slow down a truly passionate artist.
A common cold can't slow down a truly passionate artist.

Such was the case last night at Loplops Gallery-Lounge as Elliott Brood front man Mark Sasso suffered through his ailment to make the band's "death country" sound far grittier and a little bit mean.

Three bands from the Exclaim! magazine sponsored Wood, Wires and Whisky Tour thrilled the ardent audience members.

The Ottawa-based folk rock band The Acorn was bookended by the alt-country sound of the Sunparlour Players and Elliott Brood.

The Sunparlour Players charmed legions of new fans with their bold gospel infused rock country set and homemade Sunparlour preserves.

The Acorn's poppy melodies turned the evening in a completely different, yet somehow fitting direction.

Already notorious in Ottawa as one of the city's finest exports, it won't be long before the band is a household name.

Closing the evening, Elliott Brood did not disappoint the massive Sault fan-base as Mark Sasso, Casey Laforet and Steven Pitkin passionately dished out their signature dark country with a rock and roll attitude.

While each band injected their own unique flair into the event, all three had one essential element in common.

The desire to have a good time.

The room was packed, the dancers were busy and every face, including the band members', was permanently etched with a smile of intense satisfaction.
