Collective Soul shines at Kewadin (new photos)

Since exploding onto the scene in 1994 with the release of Hints, Allegations and Things Left Unsaid and its No. 1 hit song Shine, Georgia's Collective Soul has endured a lengthy court battle, a couple member changes, critical success, critical failure, and more than a few haircuts.

And in 2001, country music diva Dolly Parton chose to include her cover of Shine on her album Little Sparrow.

The band's most recent release Afterwords, which debuted at No. 5 on Billboard's Top Internet Albums Chart, is currently only available from Target retail stores and iTunes.

Front man Ed Roland was a flurry of activity, taking stage antics cues from Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and the Tragically Hip's Gordon Downie, as Collective Soul performed in front of 1,500+ fans at Kewadin Casino's DreamMaker Theatre Saturday night.

While Collective Soul may have been flying somewhat under the radar in recent years, the audience's response is proof that chart listings bear little influence on fan devotion.

The set list included Gel, Heavy, December, All That I know, Better Now, Why Pt. II and Hollywood, with a two-song encore of Run and Shine.

Surprisingly absent were the 1997 No. 1 hit Precious Declaration and fan favourite Smashing Young Man.

Opening acts, Green River Ordinance and Josh Kelley, both delivered impressive sets and undoubtedly left with far more fans than they arrived with.

Next up on Kewadin's entertainment roster is comedian Carlos Mencia on Friday, April 18 and Engelburt Humperdinck on Monday, May 5.
