Canada's worst handymen to build the ultimate Canadian shed

Nation-wide search for the worst home renovators in the country begins today for Season 2 of Canada's Worst Handyman - and this time the stakes are even higher!

TORONTO, ONTARIO - Proper Television, the producers behind Discovery Channel's hugely successful series Canada's Worst Handyman, seeks the next generation of hopeless handymen to build an unprecedented luxury shed.

It will be the cornerstone of the series' second season.

The ultimate shed will be decked out with a multi-purpose workbench, Murphy style-bed, wood stove, beer fridge, urinal and built-in surround-sound stereo.

This will be the ideal male accessory - if any of it actually works the way it should!

Last spring, Discovery Channel and Canada's Worst Handyman introduced Canadian viewers to five inept un-handymen and women: do-it-yourselfers with reno ambitions that so exceeded their abilities they'd left monumental home improvement disasters in their wake - including Merle, who confessed he'd never used a tape measure in his life...and he had already renovated half his house!

Season 1 saw horrible handyman plying their "skills" on identical units in an apartment complex, and in the process revealed that engineering is not just about big buildings, but also about where you live and your everyday environment.

These handymen's less-than-perfect workmanship opened a window onto the basic science of building and showed first-hand how things really work.

And while this entertaining series offered hope to Merle, his co-handymen and disastrous DIYers everywhere, Proper Television is not yet finished "fixing the fixers."

Nominations for Canada's Worst Handyman 2 are now being accepted via e-mail. Just click here or dial toll-free 1.866.598.2591.

But why a shed?

"Design and construction of a shed of this calibre from scratch will be the ultimate tool-man training ground," said Guy O'Sullivan, executive producer. "By the time we're done with the nation's worst handymen, you'll know everything there is to know about basic house construction - this shed is so decked out, it's practically a miniature house, a place to work, play or escape from the family."

Once overlooked or used for piling junk, sheds and garages are the most recent home renovation craze.

The garage and shed storage market has reached more than one and a half billion dollars, and is expected to continue climbing over the next five years.

Meanwhile remodeling other more predictable parts of the house is on the decline.

Hardware stores now have entire sections dedicated to the cause and books like the Garageonous Zone are inundating the do-it-yourself aisle.

"People ask me why we want to make the most ham-fisted handyfolk in the country tackle such a challenging project," said Andrew Younghusband, host and writer of Canada's Worst Handyman 2 "Well, it's because this project is guaranteed to make them care like they've never cared before. We've got great experts, great materials and a platform for them to show the nation once and for all what they are really made of."

Once complete, the luxury sheds constructed during the production of Canada's Worst Handyman 2 will be up for auction on eBay, with proceeds going to support Habitat for Humanity.
