Beginning at 9 a.m. sharp the morning of Saturday, August 2, a very unique event will kick off at Arcadia Coffee House located at 823 Queen St. E.

The Sault Ste. Marie 24-Hour Film Challenge invites production crews of five people to write, shoot, edit and deliver a four to six-minute short film in just 24 hours.

All films must be completed and submitted by 9 a.m. Sunday, August 3rd.

Event coordinators Adriana Cull and Justin Colautti invite any and all interested parties to register for the challenge at Arcadia by 5:30 p.m. on Friday, August 1st.

"We get you started with a challenge pack that includes some instructions and requirements," Colautti told SooToday.com. "As for prizes, adulation should be enough to satisfy anyone. If it doesn't, first prize is $150. The winning films will also be screened on Shaw TV, as well as shown at the Lock City Grand Theatre on August 10th."

The cost of registration is $50 per team.

Each team will be given an identical challenge package which includes a prop, a single line of dialogue, a genre and a topic that must be incorporated into the short film.

Everything else is left up to your imagination.

"We'd definitely like to make this an annual event if we get a good turnout and reception," says Colautti. "This event is sort of a stepping stone to much larger things we have in store for filmmaking in Sault Ste. Marie, which is an as yet fully untapped resource here. One of the ultimate goals of this challenge is to demonstrate what it's like to make a film on a much larger scale. The experience of making a really small movie in 24 hours is a microcosm of a full film production. It's also really fun. All you really need is some creativity, ingenuity, determination etc... some caffeine might help too. We'll have that part covered though."

This event has been made possible through a partnership with the Arts Council Of Sault Ste. Marie and District and is generously sponsored by Non Linear Pictures, Arcadia Coffee House, Neil's Diner, and Stones Office Plus.
