Fall Festival kicks off this Friday

Sault Ste. Marie, October 11, 2006 – The 2006 edition of the Algoma Fall Festival is opening this weekend with two outstanding concerts that promise to bring the house down and set the tone for the remaining seven performances that will run across the next three consecutive weekends ending November 5.

The kick-off concert will take place this Friday at the Algoma Water Tower Inn Pavilion with Con Caché.

This hot salsa band of eight musicians won this year's Favourite Latin Alternative Group at the Canadian Music Week Indie Awards.

Con Cache combines jazz, African and Latin beats to create a uniquely Canadian salsa.

"The songs are contagious, the beat hypnotic and no one will be able to stay in their seat," promise the festival organizers.

The following evening, Saturday, at the Kiwanis Community Theatre Centre, the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra will perform works by Ludwig van Beethoven and Norbert Burgmüller.

The audience will also be treated to Mendelssohn's Midsummer Night's Dream ballet score with guest appearances of some 61 homegrown dancers from the Sherry Walsh Academy of Dance Arts.

A musical and ballet extravaganza not to be missed!

"I believe this 2006 edition will be the best ever," says Fall Festival President Donna Hilsinger. "We succeeded in putting together a rich, exciting and highly entertaining programme that truly celebrates the diversity of our cultural mosaic, with Canadian music performers from Korea, Africa, Europe and South America, as well as the best home grown Canadian theatre artists," added Hilsinger.

The public is encouraged to visit the festival's website for the detailed programme at AlgomaFallFestival.com.

Moreover, people can preview on the website the essence of nine performances through individual video clips and purchase their tickets online.

Tickets are also available in person at the Station Mall Theatre Box Office or by phone at 945-7299.
