Award Winning Northern Ontario Film Hits the Road!

The multi-award winning feature film, The Road to Tophet, begins a tour of northern Ontario this summer making stops in Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury, North Bay and Chapleau.

Shot in Chapleau and Sudbury, the movie is the passion project of director Steve Schmidt and actor/producer Axel Green who long dreamed of making a movie that was true to their northern Ontario roots.

Featuring many northerners as well as a cast and crew from across Canada with narration by Adam Beach (Windtalkers, Arctic Air), the film is a fast paced crime thriller about Charlie (rising star, Samuel Thivierge) who smuggles drugs across the American border near Sault Ste. Marie.

He decides to quit but his boss Rick (played by the Soo’s own Matt Connors) has other ideas and sets him up to lose a shipment.

Charlie enlists the help of of his friend Johnny from Sudbury (played by Axel Green, Freddie vs. Jason) who shows up with a bunch of gambling debts and one bad idea that leads them down the Road to Tophet.

The tour comes on the heels of a successful festival run.

The film recently played the Queens World Film Festival in New York, took Best Director at the Green Bay Film Festival and won Best Micro-Budget Feature at the Toronto Independent Film Festival.

The tour kicks off in Sault Ste. Marie on June 13 with two screenings (7 & 9:30 pm) at The Grand Theatre downtown.

On hand will be local Soo-lebrity Matt Connors who credits the movie with kick starting his film career. Seen recently in Swearnet, the Trailer Park Boys Movie, Matt appears next alongside Malcolm McDowell in Abnormal Attraction to be shot in NewYork.

Matt also stars in the Soo shot dramatic short Lockwood which will screen before The Road to Tophet.
