Juno Award winning blues guitarist Derek Miller coming to the Machine Shop

SAULT STE. MARIE - Often described as a journeyman, two-time Juno award winning blues artist Derek Miller will be bringing his mojo to The Machine Shop.

Miller, who was born in Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation, became interested in music early in his teens. Since that time, he has received many accolades and awards for his albums, toured with Buffy Sainte-Marie, and recorded an album with Stevie Ray Vaughn’s backing band, Double Trouble.

In 2003, Miller received a Juno award for Aboriginal Recording of the Year for the song Lovesick Blues from his album Music is the Medicine.

In 2007, he won his 2007 Canadian Aboriginal Music Award in the category Best Rock Album and a 2008 Juno for Aboriginal Recording of the Year for The Dirty Looks.

In 2010, he performed at the Closing Ceremonies of the Vancouver Winter Olympics. The same year, he released his third album Derek Miller with Double Trouble, Steve Ray Vaughn’s backing band for which he was again nominated for a Juno for a duet with Willie Nelson.

Miller’s latest album Rumble, a tribute to ‘native music icons,’ was also nominated for a Juno Aboriginal Album of the Year.
