'A songwriter who needs to be heard'

Singer-songwriter Craig Cardiff returns to the Algoma region February 19

Referred to as "a songwriter who needs to be heard" by Canadian music legend Gordon Lightfoot, Craig Cardiff will return to Algoma in February for two special appearances.

The Kitchener-Waterloo artist is scheduled to host an afternoon songwriting workshop at Superior Heights starting at 12 noon on Friday, February 19.

This workshop is specifically for Superior Heights students and is not open to the general public.

Following this workshop, Cardiff will head to St. Joseph Island for an evening performance at the Richards Landing Town Hall.

Doors open at 7 p.m. with music beginning at 8 p.m.

Tickets for this performance are $15 in advance or $20 at the door.

In addition to his candid songwriting and heartfelt delivery, Cardiff's performances are more engaging than most thanks to his Book of Truths.

The Book of Truths is passed through the audience and listeners are invited to anonymously share "a story, a confession, a hope, a secret."

"I was touring a lot and I found myself going into auto pilot. I was halfway through a show and I didn't remember what I had performed," Cardiff said of the Book of Truths in a May 2015 interview with Tuned on LOCAL2.

"The idea was to connect with people in a real way, and get them to skip over the easy conversation and go to the bigger stuff, the silly stuff," he continued. "It makes you realize that we can sit in a room with each other and think we know each other, but we don't."
