Pianist Deborrah Wyndham featured at LSSU Arts Centre

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI - Concert pianist/composer Deborrah Wyndham, whose jazz peers describe her as "a cross between Liberace and Bill Evans," will bring her unique sound to the Lake Superior State University Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 24.

Wyndham has performed for more than 2,700 audiences over the last 10 years, playing everything from original contemporary classical music to traditional jazz, including ragtime and stride.

Originally from the New England area, she now makes the Midwest her stage, with recent appearances on Fox and NBC TV out of Michigan.

Wyndham's live concerts bring unexpected satisfaction to audiences seeking classical sounds and jazz sentiment.

Having earned her classical edge from training during youth, she bridges the gap between the two diverse genres as she weaves seamlessly in and out of them.

With radio and television appearances and enthusiastic listeners from all over the world, Wyndham offers something for every musical taste.

Her original compositions, a fusion of contemporary classical and jazz styles, are hauntingly beautiful.

She also performs her own arrangements of music of other genres as well, including stride, ragtime, pop and more.

She has recorded four solo piano CDs and received an Honorable Mention from Billboard Magazine in 2004 for one of her compositions.

Featured in NH Mirror Magazine in 2008, she has also been highly regarded in reviews from other publications and by her adoring fans.

For several months in 2008, Deborrah had the second highest rating out of 32,000 artists on CNET (now "last.fm"), one of the largest internet music sites, where her music earned several hundred plays every week and excellent reviews from daily listeners.

Audiences have repeatedly described her playing as sounding "like four hands."

Recent releases include her debut CD of all original piano music, Piano Compositions.

With virtuosity and an unparalleled elegance rarely seen today by young artists, many frequently ask if Wyndham is a graduate of Juilliard or Berklee College of Music, though she studied piano only in her youth for five years, beginning at age eight.

Within two years, she began performing difficult ragtime pieces.

Later on, she discovered jazz from fellow musicians and her original music has since developed into her strikingly distinct sound of hints of jazz colors merged with classical refinement.

Because of her versatility and ability to please every audience, Wyndham performs on the concert stage in many types of venues.

At LSSU, tickets for her performance are $10 for the general public and $5 for students.
