A Princess Auto location will open in Sault Ste. Marie next summer, the Winnipeg-based discount tool and equipment retailer confirms.

The new store will fill the spot left vacant by hardware giant Lowe's when it left the Northern Avenue shopping plaza in early 2019. It is a spot previously filled by Zellers and, before that, K-Mart.

The following is a news release issued by Princess Auto:

Fasten your seatbelts, because Princess Auto is coming to Sault Ste. Marie in summer 2022.

Some things are worth waiting for, even if it feels like forever. News of a Princess Auto store finally opening in Sault Ste. Marie next summer will be a welcome sight for “Figure-it-Outers” in the community and surrounding areas. The Canadian retailer aims to generate the same excitement and customer loyalty as they have seen across the country; this will be their second retail location in Northeastern Ontario, after Sudbury.

“We’ve been looking to add another location to that part of the province for quite some time,” says Marc-Andre Fournier, Princess Auto’s senior vice president of retail operations. “We’re happy to build this store in a part of the country where we already have so many loyal customers. Now instead of ordering online or travelling to Sudbury, it’ll be that much faster and easier for our Sault Ste. Marie customers to find what they need for building and repairing things in their workshops, garages, basements and backyards. We can’t wait to open.”

The store will be located at Unit 14 E-248 Northern Avenue Plaza, and will cater to tradespeople, hobbyists, weekend mechanics, and anyone who loves to fix and build things.
