SooToday received the following letter to the editor from reader Glenna Davey in regards to empty, damaged homes in the city.

Dear Editor, could you tell me why there seems to be a lot of empty, recently sold homes in the Sault?

It begs the question, why is there a shortage of housing?

I drove through a few city streets this past Sunday and all areas of town seem to have at least one or two homes sitting empty!

The other complaint I have is the number of empty vandalized homes.

It is also upsetting to see homes that have been on fire, sitting and exhibiting burnt siding, windows smashed, or homes in various states of fire damage. These buildings have suffered though fires and pure neglect!

How long do these burnt or destroyed homes remain a blight for homeowners?

In the shadows of this blight, how long must they have to wait to have these properties torn down or rebuilt?

Glenna Davey
