SooToday received the following letter to the editor from reader Duncan Rydall in response to the recent shooting rampage in Sault Ste. Marie that killed three children, a woman and the gunman, who took his own life.

To the citizens of Sault Ste. Marie,

Don’t let last week's terrible incident define your hometown. Don’t give into all that hate.

Thank someone that works in Emergency Services, despite the pain that the families that lost so much are going through.

The people that put on a uniform to protect and help people everyday have unimaginable trauma in their heads from last week.

The uniform is not Teflon. It’s not that special. Stuff gets through it.

Those three kids won’t be out this Halloween. Please make a donation to a shelter or the food bank in the Sault.

Show the world who the people of the Sault are, and that one person's actions do not define us.

Duncan Rydall
