LETTER: 95-year-old thanks 'very honest' person who found her wallet

SooToday received the following letter to the editor from 95-year-old Jane Shamess who managed to get her misplaced wallet back thanks to the actions of a good Samaritan:

I would like to thank the kind honest person who turned in my wallet at the Metro store in the Churchill Plaza on Saturday.

My daughter and I had just got $200 in cash from my bank, then picked up a prescription from Pharmasave, and a couple of items from the Dollar Store. We parked in the handicap spot at Metro, and I went in to get a few groceries. I was about to open my wallet, when I realized I didn't have it.

I should explain that I am 95 years old and use a cane.

My daughter ran around the corner to see if I had left it at the Dollar Store, then came back to say it wasn't there. She said we should go right back to the bank and cancel my debit and credit cards. So we checked out at Metro with her paying for my groceries. We went to the bank, which fortunately was still open, cancelled everything and then went back to her home for supper.

When we got there my son-in-law said, "Did you get your wallet?"

We then learned that someone had turned my wallet in at the service desk at Metro. Apparently they had gone through it carefully and found a tiny piece of paper on which I had printed "In Case of emergency call this number."

After supper when my daughter was bringing me home, we stopped at Metro and picked up my wallet which had everything still in place. The good Samaritan had not left a name or anything.

I would like to thank that person, and say that it is good to know there are still very honest people in this world! Thank you for making a very old lady happy!
