If you’re an Algoma resident and want to shop local for food products, your search may have gotten easier with the launch of Buy Algoma, Buy Local's new website: www.buyalgoma.ca

Equipped with an interactive map, the Buy Algoma, Buy Local website is designed to be a quick and easy way to locate local producers, processors, farmers’ markets, restaurants and retailers, says the Rural Agri-Food Innovation Network.

Users can search items available in the following categories:

  • Brewery

  • Caterer

  • Coffee Roaster

  • Community Supporter and Organization

  • Farm

  • Farmers' Market

  • Fishery

  • Food Artisan

  • Greenhouse/Garden Center

  • Harvester/Forager

  • Maple Farm

  • Restaurant/Cafe

  • Retailer

  • Wholesaler

  • Winery

The program is partially funded through the Algoma Community Foundation's COVID-19 Response Fund.

“As we begin to move through and beyond the pandemic, Algoma Community Foundation imagines a future centered on equity, sustainability and abundance for Algoma,” said ACF co-chair Jessica Bolduc in a news release issued today.

“One of the main goals of the updated website is to provide people in the Algoma region with the tools and resources to find and support our local food economy,” said RAIN Manager David Thompson.

Local producers, processors, restaurants or retailers that would like to become members of Buy Algoma, Buy Local, can visit the new website at www.buyalgoma.ca.
