SILTALA, James Frederick

Posted

(September 23, 1937 - February 2, 2016)

The son of Irja and Torsti, he was known early in life as Jimmy and later as Jim by his friends and family. He was athletic and driven using his given abilities to the fullest during his time as a student athlete at Queen’s University, an entrepreneur and teacher at Algoma University and Sault College.

While he was an excellent student, his passion was for sport of all kinds. As a young person he excelled in hockey, baseball, basketball and golf. Later he would become a devoted follower of a broader range of sports to follow his children wherever their interests took them which included figure skating, soccer and football.
Jim loved to teach, mentor and pass on his expertise. For those who took the time and had the patience he became a valuable resource and friend. He especially loved this role with young people, most specially his grandchildren.

Amongst his varied interests, he learned to create video games so that he could understand what all the fuss was about with the younger generation.

An important part of Jim’s life was his friends and although he would never fully admit it, he loved the guys down at the mall!
Jim and Maggie were married for 54 years and were very proud of their children, which for them lovingly including their partners, and of course their grandchildren.
Together and as individuals they had a tremendous impact on those they touched and the community of Sault Ste. Marie which was always home to them. Their lives were full and their contribution was rich. Now they rest.

The family invites you to join a celebration of life on June 25, 2016 between the hours of 11am and 1 pm at The Tech 130 Wellington Street East. Internment in Port Findlay Cemetery will follow. The family welcomes memorial donations to Algoma Community Residential Hospice (ARCH).
